Our Principles
The Sanctuary Fellowship of St. Louis has been founded to express the following values and ideas. In our vision, it is progress not perfection.
-
To celebrate our Christian faith and accompany each other through the passages of life.
-
To create a nurturing community of acceptance and support, affirming the uniqueness of each individual.
-
To participate creatively in worship, ministry, and missions.
-
To return something to each other, to the larger community, and to history in gratitude for all that we have received as a witness to our faith.
-
To encourage a Christian spirituality at work in the world, integrating the sacred and the ordinary, the practical and the transcendent, the doctrine of grace and discipleship, in a personal encounter with God.
-
To teach the message, arts, and ideas of Christianity as our mission to the world and each other.
-
To worship and study with joy, vitality, and holy intent.
-
To create a simplified, non-political structure for the church. facilitated by a personal and intimate leadership.
-
To devote our best resources, both financial and human, to the substance of the church, mindful that we are building a sanctuary of the spirit, supported by the free will offerings of the heart.
-
To develop an atmosphere for spiritual healing, a safe place to grow and develop, each according to one's own needs and capacities, empowered by the spiritual resources of Christianity and the process of the faith that is taught in our sacred space.
-
To value the Bible as God's word to us today by living its principles and trusting in its truthfulness.
-
To recognize that the Holy Spirit is at work in the world bringing about healthy change to individuals through the process of spiritual programs such as 12-Step Recovery.
